Hey guys welcome to Life Undefeated, today were going to talk today about how to organize your thoughts. Organizing your thoughts is a very difficult task, because on a daily basis we are flooded with tons of different ideas, both those of our own and those of others. However, it is extremely important to know how to organize these thoughts to maximize productivity. The way that I do it is using white boards. Let me tell you how I do it.
In my life I have three different companies and within each company different departments. So on my white board I block off three areas, one for each company, and then within those areas I create blocks for each department. When I come up with an idea I then figure out the department and company in which the idea belongs. If the idea is fully thought out I will place it at the top of the department list and begin to create an action plan, if the idea is not fully developed I will place it at the bottom of the department list. These ideas at the bottom of the list will then receive attention at a later date. If I think they are worthy ideas I will create an action plan for them and move them up the list. If they are just poor ideas I will delete them. When I generate an idea that does not fall into one of my existing categories I write it on the bottom area of my board. When the idea becomes more thought out I can create a category or just delete it.
White boards can be used for more than just business. You can use them to track your religious goals, family goals and personal goals. For example my wife and I currently have a goal to run/bike the distance across the U.S. in a one year time frame. This goal is currently at the top of our fitness goal board, but if someone was to get injuired the goal could move down. The great thing about using these boards is they help eliminate the fear of the unknown and keep ideas in front of you. Let me give you an example. Say you want to open a company in Florida. That idea by itself may sound scary. What I like to do is take big project like this and put them on a board. I will look at it and start brain storming, What are advantages? What are the disadvantages? If the advantages win I develop a flow chart examining the steps I need to take to make my idea a reality. By the time this process is complete I have a rough action plan and am no longer in the dark. So once again guys in my office I set my white boards up. I have a board to each side of me and a board in front of me. I work these boards on a daily basis I put all my ideas on these boards. If they are good ideas they stay, if they are bad ideas I take them down.
I hope this helps, live life undefeated.”
